Year 2 Blog - 01.05.2026

30th April 2026

It has been an absolutely jam-packed week in the classroom, filled with creative projects and some very dramatic news from our stationery pots.

We arrived in the classroom this week to find some very sad news—our felt tip pens have officially quit! They told us they felt overworked, underappreciated, and tired of being left with their lids off.

To win them back, we have been working incredibly hard on our persuasive writing. We’ve been drafting heartfelt letters to the pens, promising to look after them better and explaining just how much we need them to make our work look vibrant. We’re crossing our fingers that our brilliant arguments convince them to return to work soon!

In Maths, we’ve put our geometry hats on to explore the world of 2D and 3D shapes. We have had a total blast "dissecting" shapes to find:

  • Vertices: Counting those tricky corners.

  • Edges: Feeling the lines where faces meet.

  • Lines of Symmetry: Using mirrors to see if shapes are a perfect match on both sides.

We’ve taken a short break from the Titanic this week to soar into the sky! We’ve been learning all about the Wright Brothers and the very first mode of powered flight. We discovered so many fascinating facts about Orville and Wilbur Wright and their "Flyer." It’s amazing to think how far aeroplanes have come since that very first flight in 1903.

Finally, our creative spirits have been soaring in Art. We started our Stick Transformation projects, which began with a lovely walk to collect the perfect sticks. Once we had our sticks, we didn’t just see pieces of wood; we saw characters! We’ve spent time:

  1. Designing a life for our characters (What are their names? Where do they live?).

  2. Dressing them up using colourful wool and fabric.

Our classroom is now full of "stick people" with very big personalities!

A huge well done to everyone for such a focused week of learning. Have a lovely weekend, and we'll see you on Tuesday!
