Year 1 Blog - 27/09/2024

26th September 2024

Year 1 has had lots of fun this week! We have been exploring addition and subtraction in maths, learning the sounds ‘ar’, ‘or’, and ‘air’ in phonics, and developing our writing with our new story Big Blob and Baby Blob.

The children have enjoyed lots of fun activities and experiments in our science lessons. This week we have started our topic on healthy food and drink, we explored what jobs scientists have that involve food like nutritionists, and food engineers. Then we investigated which drinks taste the most unhealthy, we decided that coca-cola felt the most sugary on our teeth and water made us feel the most hydrated. We then discussed that some foods have fat in them, that fat is good for the body as long as we don’t eat too much! We investigated which foods and drinks have fat in and were surprised to find a drink as healthy as milk contains fat! Proving that fat is a healthy part of our diet.

We have also been developing hand and wrist strength in art through creating tight spirals in a multitude of mediums. The children have practised making spirals standing up, crouching down, and lying on their tummies. They have used a variety of colours and had a smashing time!
