Year 1 Blog - 17.07.2026

17th July 2026

What a fun end of the year it has been!  In our learning, we finished our topics around ‘Animals including humans’ in science and ‘Oceans’ in Geography, The children have thoroughly enjoyed these topics and have learned so many new facts and skills.  I am so proud of the efforts they have made!  We continued our project on ‘Making birds’ in Art and have been making our own bird sculptures, drawing on the skills we acquired in previous weeks.  The class is full of budding artists and their creations have been fabulous!  We have also completed our English and maths lessons for the year.  The children thoroughly enjoyed looking through all their old books and seeing how their basic skills have progressed. They should be very proud of what they have achieved - as am I!

We have had a lot of fun in the past couple of weeks.  Last week, we took part in our sponsored bounce event.  We had so much fun bouncing on the inflatables, with a tip top cooling us down afterwards!  The children threw themselves into the challenge in what turned out to be a superb fundraising event.

This week brought more fun with a visit from Dudley Performing Arts who told us the story of ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears,’ with live musical accompaniment.  We were enchanted as the instruments played and brought the story to life and also enjoyed joining in with the songs and watching the actors play the roles of the characters in the story.

Wednesday saw our rescheduled Sports Day take place and what a wonderful Sports Day it was!  As usual, the children worked incredibly hard to score points for their team and the teachers could not be prouder of them! After weeks of practise, there were penalty shoot outs, amazing archers, baskets scored and we even triumphed in curling.  The children raced hard in the field events and demonstrated their skills as dedicated athletes.  We even had some Year 1 parents demonstrating their skills with wins in the parents’ races!  What a fabulous morning it was!

This week, we have also enjoyed transition activities and have been lucky to spend some time with Mrs Boden, getting ready for Year 2.  We have had the best time getting to know her and finding out about the topics we will be covering and routines we will be following in Year 2.  Mrs Boden has really enjoyed getting to know the children and is looking forward to the year ahead of them, starting in September.  I could not be prouder of my ‘Wonderful Ones’ and all they have achieved this year.  They are becoming confident, enthusiastic, independent learners who have impressed me with their growing learner skills and character virtues. Year One - what a wonderful class you have been!  I am so proud of you and I cannot wait to see you all, thriving in Year 2!  Finally, a huge thank you to our parents and carers - it has been lovely to work with you all again and I would like to thank you all for your ongoing support.  Wishing all of our families the most wonderful Summer!
