Year 1 Blog - 11/10/2024

11th October 2024

What a lovely week it has been in Year 1! The children have been busy learning the sounds 'ea,' 'oi,' and 'a-e,' which has really helped them with their writing. They enthusiastically completed the final part of writing about our story, Big Blob and Baby Blob, showcasing their creativity and understanding. In Maths, we’ve begun our unit on shapes, and I’m so impressed with how quickly the children are absorbing key vocabulary like vertices, straight edges, and curved edges. Our shape hunt around the school was a fantastic way to bring these concepts to life!

In Science this week, we explored the concepts of light and dark, engaging in fun experiments to see how shadows are formed and where light comes from. In History, we took a fascinating look at how food has changed through time. The students enjoyed sharing their thoughts on their favourite foods and how they think they’ve evolved. Additionally, in Music, we focused on rhythm and pulse, where the children practised clapping and tapping along to different beats. It was a joyful experience as they discovered how rhythm plays a vital role in music! Overall, it’s been a week full of exploration and learning across all subjects!
