Year 1 Blog - 10.01.2025

10th January 2025

We’ve had a wonderful start to the Spring term! The children have settled back into school beautifully, and it’s been exciting to see their enthusiasm for learning. This week, we’ve kicked off our new topics for the term.

In maths, we’ve begun learning about telling the time. The children have explored key vocabulary such as o’clock, half past, and quarter to, and have been practicing with mini clocks. We’ll continue to develop these skills as the term progresses, aiming to tell the time to the nearest five minutes.

In science, we’re studying animals and humans. We’ve started by comparing the similarities and differences between them, and will soon begin exploring the life cycles of various animals. The children have been really engaged and curious about this topic so far!

Our history topic focuses on significant individuals from the past. We’re learning about Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole, and Edith Cavell – three inspiring women who made important contributions to healthcare and society. We cannot wait to learn more about these key individuals.

We’re excited for the rest of the term and can’t wait to see the children continue to grow in their learning!
