Year 1 Blog - 04/09/2026

Welcome Back, Year 1! We were so excited to welcome everyone back to school this week, and what a fantastic start it has been! The Year 1 team is incredibly proud of how amazingly the children have settled in and adapted to our daily routines.

Here is a quick look at what we have been up to during our first few days together: 

We dove straight into our new maths unit investigating 3D shapes and their properties. We even challenged ourselves to build the tallest towers possible using shapes with flat faces. We had some great discussions about which towers would stand and which would topple based on their properties.

The children have settled brilliantly into taking ownership of their own learning. They have been confidently accessing our new continuous provision areas independently. We have seen all children making great choices across our puzzles, roleplay, drawing, and maths table throughout the week. 

We have also delved into our brand-new art topic inspired by the artist Molly Haslund. Over the next few weeks, we will use drawing, collage, and mark-making to explore spirals, while introducing the children to their very own sketchbooks.

We have had a wonderful first few days back in school. Year 1, you have fitted into our routines perfectly, and we cannot wait to see how much you grow and achieve throughout the year ahead!
