Reception Blog - 24.10.2025

24th October 2025

It has been a super exciting and busy time in Reception lately! From Diwali diva fun to Forest School and Halloween activities, we have making the most of the Autumn days!

As part of our Knowledge and Understanding of the World curriculum we have been learning about Diwali. We learnt all the wonderful festival of light and we decorated our own diva lamps to take home. We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and we even learnt a Diwali dance.

In English we continued reading Room on Broom. We talked about feelings and how the characters might feel at different stages of the story. We discussed all of the items that the witch had lost on her journey and drew and labelled pictures in our books. When we had finished off the story we talked about our favourite parts and wrote book reviews. What clever writers we are!

In Maths we have turned to all things Halloween. We have been counting and mixing various spooky items in cauldrons including frogs and spiders. We have been learning about one more and one less as we count frogs on a lily-pad.

We have been enjoying the beautiful Autumn colours in Forest School. As well as having lots of fun exploring the Forest School areas, we have been using our senses to talk about the Autumn changes that we can see. We have been very much enjoying the swings, puddles and mud kitchen.

As part of our PSHE curriculum we had an exciting visit from the school nurse where we learnt all about washing our hands and brushing our teeth correctly. After a hand washing demonstration from the nurse, we covered our hands in hand-cream which we then washed off before placing our hands under an ultra-violet light to check that we had washed them properly! We then learnt about brushing our teeth and practised our techniques on the teddies.  What a group of superstars Reception are! We have been particularly impressed with how well they have settled into the Reception routines and by how kind and caring they are with each other. Well done Reception!
