Tenterfields Nursery Shines Bright for Diwali!

What a dazzling time we had in Nursery learning about and celebrating the wonderful festival of Diwali! The air was filled with excitement, colour, and the spirit of light as we dove into the traditions of the "Festival of Lights."

We were so happy to welcome our wonderful parents for a special Stay and Play Session to celebrate with us. It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to share what they were learning and create some beautiful decorations.

Making Diya Lamps: The children and parents loved getting creative, making and decorating their own beautiful Diya lamps. It was a lovely way to understand how these little lights are used to illuminate homes and symbolise the triumph of good over evil and guide Sita home.

Painting Rangoli: Our creative station was a colourful array as we painted vibrant Rangoli patterns. The children used their imaginations and fine motor skills to create these intricate and welcoming designs using the skill of stenciling.

Rangoli Sand Pictures: Speaking of fine motor skills, we also got tactile with Rangoli sand pictures! Carefully pouring and shaping the coloured sand helped our little ones refine their control and focus while making stunning mini masterpieces which kept our fingers busy.

Learning about Diwali isn't just about crafts—it's about stories, tradition, and community!

Building the Bridge: We had a great time acting out part of the story of Rama and Sita! The children used balancing monkeys, working together to build a 'bridge' to rescue Sita. It was a brilliant cooperative play.

Dressing the Part: The role-play area became a vibrant festival as children tried on traditional Diwali festival clothing. They loved dressing up, dancing, and acting out a festive party scene, fostering their social skills and imagination.

Thinking About Food: We even incorporated healthy choices into our celebrations by making some traditional Diwali-inspired snacks. We discussed the ingredients and thought about why it's important to have a healthy diet, even when celebrating!

Matching and Sorting: To further cement our maths learning, we used Diwali photos and patterns for a fun sorting and matching activity. This helped our little learners with early mathematical concepts like pattern recognition and classification.

It was a truly enriching experience that allowed the children to explore different cultures, develop key skills like fine motor control and teamwork, and, most importantly, have fun! A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us and helped make our Diwali celebration so memorable.
