Busy Week of Fun and Learning at the Nursery!

This week at the nursery has been filled with excitement and new adventures! We welcomed some wonderful new children into our class, and we’re thrilled to share that they’ve settled in beautifully. The children have already made lots of new friends and are enjoying their time with their peers, which always makes us smile. It’s such a joy to see the friendships blossoming!

Exploring the World of Vehicles

Our ongoing transport topic has been a hit! This week, we’ve been diving into the fascinating world of how vehicles move. The children have shown a keen interest in learning about the different types of vehicles, and we’ve explored how wheels and engines help them get from one place to another.

The children were given the opportunity to get creative and draw their own vehicles, focusing on the shapes and features of what makes a vehicle. They carefully thought about what their vehicles would need, like wheels, windows, and doors, and we discussed the initial sounds we could hear as we described the various features of their drawings.

Making Moveable Cars

The fun didn’t stop there! We took our learning one step further by building moveable cars using cardboard, wheels, and dowels. This hands-on activity allowed the children to experiment with how the wheels worked and how they could make their cars move. They really enjoyed the challenge of assembling their cars and watching them roll, developing not only their fine motor skills but also their understanding of cause and effect.

Learning Through Play: Loading and Unloading

Another exciting activity involved loading and unloading various natural materials, such as pebbles, twigs, and shells. The children were curious about the weight of each material and how it felt to load them into different vehicles. This sparked conversations about weight and size, encouraging them to compare and contrast the different items they were working with.

Counting and Recognizing the Number 4

Maths was also part of our week’s adventures! We focused on recognising, representing, and counting the number 4. The children had fun with different activities that helped them visualise and understand this number, such as counting groups of four objects, drawing the number, and practising how to form it. It’s amazing to see how much they’ve already learned, and we’re excited to continue supporting their number recognition.
