What a wonderful, busy time we have had in Nursery recently! Our little learners are settling into their daily routines with growing confidence, building lovely new friendships, and exploring who they are and what they like.
Focus Book: It’s Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr It’s Okay to Be Different has been our storytime focus book. We have been talking about all the wonderful things that make each of us unique and special. The children loved reading about different hair, different sizes, and different feelings, leading to some fantastic conversations about kindness and celebrating our differences.
Expressive Arts: Making Our Own Portraits Inspired by our focus book, the children have been busy exploring their own identities through a variety of creative mediums:
Playdough Portraits: Rolling, squishing, and shaping playdough to create fun self-portraits.

Nature Art: Using autumn treasures like shiny conkers, bumpy pine cones, and sturdy sticks to build unique faces.

Drawing Features: Practising mark-making by carefully drawing eyes, noses, mouths, and hair in their self-portraits.

Maths & Sorting Exploration In our maths area, we have been practising our visual recognition and fine-motor skills. The children enjoyed sorting a bright mix of coloured objects into matching coloured jars, showing great concentration and teamwork as they matched reds, blues, greens, and yellows!

At-Home Connection Talk with your child about what makes them unique! Ask them to tell you about the nature portraits they built or show you their favourite face-making expression in the mirror.
