We have had an absolutely fantastic week of learning as we leapt into our new topic, Growing and Changing. The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as we turned our focus to the wonderful world of frogs and tadpoles!

Here is a look at what we have been up to:

Our Whole-Class Read: The Trouble with Tadpoles

Our focus book this week has been The Trouble with Tadpoles. The children thoroughly enjoyed following the story and it sparked some brilliant conversations about how living things grow and change over time. We have been learning all about the lifecycle of a frog, from tiny eggs to swimming tadpoles, and finally into jumping frogs!

Magnificent Maths to 5

In maths, we have been busy mastering our numbers up to 5. To help us visualise our counting, we played a brilliant game where we had to leap toy frogs onto lily pads, counting each jump carefully as we went.

We also paired our counting with our favourite nursery rhyme of the week, Five Little Speckled Frogs. Ask your child if they can sing it to you at home, don't forget the big "glub, glub" at the end!

Hands-on Exploration and Fine Motor Skills

Our creative and sensory areas were completely transformed this week.

Green Playdough Frogs. The children used their fine motor skills to roll, squish, and shape homemade green playdough into their very own frogs.

Frog Habitat Tuff Tray. We loved exploring our themed tuff tray! The children used their imaginations to plunge into a sensory pond world filled with water, rocks, logs, and artificial lily pads, practicing excellent vocabulary as they described where frogs like to live.

Handwriting Skills. We have also been working incredibly hard on our pencil grip and control, practicing our handwriting movements by drawing loops and jumps that mimic a frog's leap.

How to Help at Home

Count together: Look for opportunities to count up to 5 items during nirmal routines (e.g., "Can you find 5 green peas on your plate?" or "Lets count 5 steps up the stairs"). Spot signs of growth: On your walk to school or visits to the park, see if your child can spot any other things that are growing and changing, like flowers or baby birds.
