What a fantastic week it's been in Nursery! Our little learners have been busy exploring, discovering, and growing in so many exciting ways. From colourful maths adventures to discovering what makes each of us unique, every day has been filled with smiles and new understanding.
This week, we dived into the wonderful world of colours with some brilliant maths activities! We used a fantastic array of coloured objects to practice our colour sorting. It was amazing to see how carefully the children placed all the red items together, then all the blue ones, and so on. This isn't just about colours; it's a vital early step in understanding categories and developing logical thinking.

Then, we moved onto finding a match! We had pairs of identical objects and the children had to hunt for the one that was exactly the same. This activity hones their visual discrimination skills and introduces the concept of 'sameness' in a playful way.

Autumn is such a magical time, and we've been embracing the natural treasures it brings! This week, we used shiny, smooth conkers for nature counting. There's something so satisfying about holding a conker, and it makes counting a truly tactile experience. We counted them one by one and found the totals. It’s a brilliant way to connect maths with the world around us.

Our Forest School session this week was an absolute blast, especially with the beautiful autumn colours all around us! We went on an exciting autumn colour hunt using our special colour viewfinders. The children loved holding up their viewfinders, peering through the different coloured lenses, and spotting leaves, flowers, and other natural objects that matched! It was a wonderful way to observe the changing seasons and appreciate the vibrant palette of nature, all while reinforcing our colour recognition. The children also made their own autumn wreaths with the natural objects they had collected.

Get ready for some vibrant news! Our budding artists became little alchemists this week as we explored colour mixing. We took our primary colours – red, yellow, and blue – and discovered the magic that happens when they dance together!
The children were thrilled to see:
● Red + Blue = Purple!
● Red + Yellow = Orange!
● Yellow + Blue = Green!
It was a wonderfully messy and exciting experience, fostering creativity and a basic understanding of colour theory.

Beyond our academic explorations, we spent some valuable time learning to talk about what makes us special. We shared stories about our favourite toys, our families, our unique talents, and what we love to do. It’s so important for children to develop a strong sense of self and to appreciate their own wonderful qualities, as well as celebrating the differences in others. Every child in our Nursery is a shining star, and it's been heartwarming to hear them share their uniqueness.
