Nursery - 15.05.2026

14th May 2026

Ahoy there, Families! It’s time to batten down the hatches! In Nursery, we’ve officially set sail on the high seas. Our little swashbucklers have been busy exploring the world of pirates, and we couldn’t be more proud of how they have dived into their learning.

Here is a look at what our crew has been up to:

Our whole class read is The Pirates Are Coming! The children have loved joining in with the repetitive refrains and practising their best "Ahaaaaar!" voices. It’s been a fantastic way to build anticipation and sharpen our listening skills

The classroom has been transformed into a pirate’s cove with plenty of hands-on "training" for our new recruits:

Octopus tentacle: We have been busy threading colourful beads onto octopus tentacles! This is a brilliant way for the children to develop the finger strength needed for writing.

In our playdough station, we’ve been making our very own gold coins to match the pirates number. We’ve been pressing, flattening, and stamping to create a hoard of shiny treasure.

Shape-Shifting Fish: We combined art with geometry by decorating fish using different shaped stickers. Can your little one tell you the difference between a circle and a square?

Building 2D Shapes: We didn't stop at stickers! The children have been busy constructing their very own 2D shapes, identifying sides and corners as they build.

The highlight of the week has definitely been our Pirate Role Play. Equipped with handmade pirate masks, the children have been taking turns being the Captain and the Lookout. We’ve seen some wonderful imaginative play and great turn-taking as they organise their "ships" and navigate around the classroom.

It was lovely to see the children’s enthusiasm while celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday; they did a brilliant job sharing fascinating facts about the animals they brought into school.

We are so impressed with how well the children have settled into their new roles as explorers; their curiosity and enthusiasm are the real treasure in our classroom!
