6th December 2024
It’s been another brilliant week in Year 4, full of excitement and new discoveries! From practising Christmas carols to exploring new topics in class, here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
The festive season is well and truly upon us! We've been busy rehearsing our Christmas carols and preparing for our upcoming music assembly. It’s been such a joy to get into the Christmas spirit with everyone! We also had the chance to watch the EYFS nativity, which was full of festive cheer and heartwarming performances.
In English, we’ve started a new unit on narrative poetry. Our focus this week has been on the journey of a river from its source to its mouth, and the changes it undergoes along the way. Inspired by The River by Valerie Bloom, we've been exploring how poetry is different from other forms of writing. We've learned about the various features of poetry, such as rhyme and rhythm, and how they help to tell a story in a unique way.
Maths has been all about representing data this week. We’ve been learning how to create and interpret different types of charts, including bar charts, pictograms, tally charts, and frequency tables. We even created our own bar chart and pictogram to represent our favorite colors in Year 4! Next week, we’ll be diving even deeper into this topic, learning how to construct our own charts and analyze data in more detail.
We’ve also started our new whole-class reader, Cloud Busting by Malorie Blackman. The story explores the unlikely friendship between Sam and Davey, and we’ve already begun making predictions about who Davey might be and what will happen next. We can’t wait to read on and find out more about their journey together!
In Science, we’ve just finished our Key Assessment Task for our unit on Living Things and Their Habitats. It’s been fascinating exploring classification keys for both plants and animals, and we’ve learned so much about the five main groups of vertebrates. Along the way, we discovered some new and unusual facts about the natural world, which we’re eager to share!
In Music, we’ve been working hard in preparation for our music assembly. We’ve explored important concepts like tempo, dynamics, harmonies, and timbre. We’ve also learned about acapella singing and experimented with different vocal sounds. To tie everything together, we created an acapella song about the journey of a river, inspired by what we've learned in English. It’s been an exciting challenge, and we can’t wait to perform it!
It’s been a packed week of learning, with so much creativity and enthusiasm in the air. As we continue exploring these exciting topics, we’re looking forward to even more discoveries next week! Keep an eye out for more updates as we dive deeper into our learning adventures.
