Another great couple of weeks in year 3. The children have been really engaged with their learning and have been really enjoying all the wonderful activities.
In our writing lessons we are writing a diary entry all about the great fire of London. The children have become a rat that is simply trying to find a place to rest when these events happen around him. The children have been using their knowledge to make sure they have every detail correct. We had the opportunity to be in the great fire through the use of VR. The children had an experience day where they became a part of the great fire and had 3 challenges to complete. The children worked together to make sure they completed the tasks and escaped to safety. We really loved hearing all the sounds around us and talking to people who were working to stop this terrible fire.
In maths we have started our new topic all about graphs. We have been looking at pictograms and the features of them. The children have been interpreting data and have been creating their own pictograms. They have then moved onto looking at bar graphs and interpreting data. We have been looking at how a bar graph is put together and collecting our own data in preparation for us to create our very own graphs.
In science we have been looking at the three different types of rocks. The children have been looking at how they are made and we also made our very own edible rocks. The children were able to see the different features of the rocks. The sedimentary rocks we created the different layers to see how these are formed on the ocean bed. They also created both igneous and metamorphic rocks. The children were brilliant at pointing out the differences and naming rocks they thought fit into each category whilst we were creating our examples.
Our cooking lessons have seen us creating our seasonal tarts. To start with we have been researching different foods and where they grow around the world, before moving on to tasting some foods such as spinach, cheese, spring onions and radishes (these definitely warmed our mouths up) The children then used their choices to create their very own design. They then made their very own tarts. The children used their cutting skills to help them create their wonderful tarts.
