Year 1 Blog - 05.06.2026

What a great start to the term we have had in Year 1!  We have completed our learning about ‘Mining’ after a fantastic workshop with the outreach team from the Black Country Living Museum.  We found out about the dangers in the mines, how the miners stayed safe and why mining was important in our area.  We have started a fun topic about money and we have been learning to recognise the coins we use in Britain, what their values are and how to add them up.  We completed our Whole Class Reading book - ‘Dogger’, and have started to learn about themes which run through our new book - ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the dark’.  We have explored what it is like to be a nocturnal animal and how we feel about the nighttime ourselves.  As we prepare for our Phonics Screening Checks next week,the children have been dazzling us with their excellent progress and attitude in phonics sessions.  We could not be prouder!  We are looking forward to a fun Summer 2 and all of the adventures that await us.
