Year 3 Blog - 27/03/2026

27th March 2026

What an absolute whirlwind of a half term it has been in Year 3! It feels like only yesterday we were hanging up our coats after February half term, yet the children have packed an incredible amount of learning and discovery into these past few weeks. From the muddy trails of the woods to the "magic" of the science lab, our classrooms have been buzzing with energy.

Our Forest School sessions remain a firm favourite. The children have shown brilliant skills in forest school exploring building dens, making bird feeders and using their cooking skills for a delicious snack. We even had our very own salon which provided specialised face masks! Science week also allowed us to explore how science and magic can unite. We saw some amazing tricks (science) that we can see all around us. Our science week fun continued with a brilliant severn trent water workshop. The children explored how what we put down the toilet can affect our pipes.

In our writing lessons, we have been letting our imaginations run wild. The children have been busy crafting their very own humorous stories centered around a peculiar superpower: the ability to touch an object and suddenly know everything about it! However, as our young authors discovered, things didn’t quite go to plan for their characters. We’ve had tales of characters touching ancient smelly socks and being overwhelmed by their "history," or touching everything around them and learning far more than they bargained for. The creativity and comedic timing in their writing have been a joy to read.

Maths has been all about the clock. We started by mastering both analogue and digital time, ensuring everyone can tell their pasts from their tos! We then moved on to ordering events using am and pm, which sparked some great debates about 12:00 pm versus 12:00 am. Finally, the children turned into cinema consultants! We helped a local cinema calculate film durations, working out exactly how long a movie lasts by looking at start and finish times. This practical application of "time elapsed" really helped the concept click.

To wrap up our term, we visited the church for a wonderful Easter Extravaganza. The children moved through different stations, creating beautiful crafts that represented the events of Holy Week. It was a reflective and educational afternoon where we discussed the different symbols of the season and their significance to Christians. The children showed great curiosity while exploring why Easter is such a vital celebration in the Christian calendar. It was wonderful to hear all of the volunteers say how wonderful the children were with their wonderful manners and engagement with the activities.

I am incredibly proud of how hard the children have worked. I  hope you all have a restful, chocolate-filled break!
