A World of Flavours and Fun in Reception!
What an exciting start to our new topic in Reception! We've embarked on a delicious adventure inspired by our new topic book, "Handa's Surprise." The children have been captivated by Handa's journey and all the wonderful fruits she carries. This book has been a fantastic springboard for us to explore food from around the world and engage in a variety of engaging activities. The children enjoyed sharing images of themselves eating food from around the world.

One of the highlights has been our exploration of different fruits. We've been talking about where they come from, what they look like, and how we can describe them! The children have been fantastic at identifying and discussing the various fruits from the story.
To help us practice our grouping and sorting skills, we had a very active session! The children worked in pairs, just like Handa and Akeyo, to match socks with pegs – a fun way to develop those fine motor skills and cooperation! We then moved on to sorting fruits into hoops, which led to some great discussions about their characteristics. And for some strategic thinking, our dominoes games proved to be a real hit, reinforcing number recognition and problem-solving.
Our creative juices have also been flowing! We spent time observing and discussing different fruits before trying our hand at still-life painting. The children did a wonderful job capturing the shapes and colours of a fruit bowl.
