Year 6 Blog Post - 09.01.2026

9th January 2026

What a brilliant start to the spring term Year 6 have had! We began the week with a My Happy Mind session, thinking carefully about how to keep our brains healthy. The children discussed the importance of exercise, a balanced diet, showing gratitude, practising Happy Breathing and much more. Everyone committed to trying one extra thing to look after their own mental health this term – we were very proud of their thoughtful ideas.

The wintery weather brought lots of excitement too! Year 6 loved playing in the snow and showed fantastic responsibility on the playground. Their sensible behaviour even earned them a whole-class Dojo from Mr Simpson – well done, Year 6!

In history, we were completely enthralled in our first lesson about the Second World War. The children worked brilliantly to piece together the timeline of key events and began to understand how the war started. Their curiosity and questions were excellent.

In maths, we have been working hard on converting fractions into decimals and percentages. The children have shown great determination and are becoming increasingly confident with this tricky but important skill.

In writing, Year 6 have really enjoyed publishing their beautiful persuasive leaflets for the Hobbiton Resort UK. The finished pieces look fantastic, and the children should feel very proud of the effort they have put into their presentation and language choices.

Overall, it has been a fantastic first week back. The children have shown maturity, enthusiasm and a wonderful attitude towards their learning. What a great start to the spring term!
