Year 1 Blog Post - 09.01.2026

It has been wonderful to see Year 1 settle back in so seamlessly this week. The children jumped straight back into their routines and learning, but still found the time to make the most of the weather as the whole school came together to enjoy the snow.

In Maths, we have been exploring how time is measured in seconds and minutes, even putting our skills to the test by timing each other in various activities to see who was the fastest! To support their independence, the children have also been working hard to use the resources on the back of their books to help them become ‘unstuck’ during lessons.

In phonics, we have been working in groups to master new sounds and revisit previous ones, while in reading, we began researching Australia to discover where koalas live in preparation for our new class text, The Koala Who Could.The Koala Who Could: From The World of ...

The snowy weather provided the perfect backdrop for Science, where we explored the season of winter. We discussed wind, precipitation, and temperature, and why it is so important to wrap up warm!

I am incredibly proud of how the children have returned to school and I look forward to beginning our new history topic on significant individuals next week.
