What an exciting first week back we have had with our trip to the think tank. The children were brilliant and represented the school amazingly. We explored the think tank paying close attention to the animal and human sections as this is part of our exciting new science topic. The children got to explore the museum and even had a workshop exploring different types of animals and grouping them by appearance, what they eat and where they live. The children particularly enjoyed the science garden and exploring different things around them. It was a very interactive day and we loved every second of it.
We have been using our futuristic minds to write our own explanation text about our very own robot dog. We have begun by writing our introduction to entice our readers to find out more about these amazing robot creatures. We then moved onto the benefits of having a robot dog and what they can bring to their owners. We then shared the incredible features of our dog. The children have been very creative and created a very intriguing creature.
In maths we have been exploring different types of angles and lines. We went on an angle hunt around our room for right angles. Using our ipads we took pictures of all the right angles we could find around our classroom. We then explored acute and obtuse angles identifying different angles and using our reasoning skills to explain to our partners why we thought they were acute or obtuse. After exploring angles we looked at different types of lines spotting parallel and perpendicular lines. Looking at a variety of shapes we used different colours to identify where the perpendicular and parallel lines were.
History has seen us explore trade in the Mayan city and its importance to towns. We looked at the different types of things that were traded between Mayan cities and why they needed to trade. The children then created their very own Mayan city trade shops including all their wonderful items they would be selling.
We have had a brilliant start to the final part of our summer term and the children have settled in wonderfully. We have lots more to look forward to throughout the term.
